Privacy Policy for Oriten
Effective date: July 23, 2026 · Last updated: August 14, 2026
Oriten (“the App”) is a drone flight-planning and logbook app for iOS, made by CHNH, LLC (“CHNH,” “we,” “our”). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the App.
We designed Oriten to process as little information about you as possible. Everything you create and configure in the App is stored only on your device. There are no user accounts, and we do not sell your personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or use it to build profiles. The App does send limited data to a small number of services, including our own aviation-data server, to provide weather forecasts, maps, and airspace information, and this policy explains exactly what is sent, to whom, and for how long anything is kept.
1. Summary
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Do we store your flight data in the cloud? | No. Everything you create in the App stays on your device. |
| Do you need an account or to log in? | No. |
| Do we use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs? | No. |
| Do we sell your data or share it for targeted advertising? | No. |
| Where is your flight data kept? | On your device only. |
| What leaves your device? | Your approximate/precise location and map searches (sent to weather and map providers), the map areas you view (sent to our aviation-data server), and subscription transactions (processed by Apple). |
| Does anything reach CHNH’s servers? | Limited technical data: requested map areas and standard server logs (IP address, request path, timestamp), kept no longer than 30 days. |
2. Information stored on your device (never uploaded to us)
All of the information you enter or configure in Oriten is saved locally on your device using Apple’s on-device storage. It is never transmitted to us and we never see it. This includes:
- Flight plans
- Fleet / aircraft (drone) details
- Flight logs
- Maintenance records
- Checklists and checklist templates
- Favorite locations you save
- Flight-limit thresholds (wind, gust, temperature, precipitation, K-index, dew-point spread)
- GNSS / satellite and other app settings
This data stays on your device, is included in your encrypted device and iCloud device backups (managed by Apple, not by us), and is permanently deleted when you delete the App. If you do not want App data included in iCloud backups, you can exclude the App in your device’s iCloud settings.
3. Information transmitted to provide App features
To show live weather, maps, and airspace information, the App sends the minimum data necessary to the following services. Beyond what is described below, we do not receive or retain the responses other than displaying them to you.
a. Weather forecasts (Open-Meteo)
- What is sent: the latitude and longitude of your current location or of a location you select (for example, a saved favorite).
- Why: to retrieve the local weather forecast for that spot.
- Provider: Open-Meteo
- Requests are made over HTTPS. No name, device identifier, or account information is attached to the request.
b. Maps, place names, and location search (Apple MapKit)
- What is sent: map regions you view, coordinates used to look up a nearby place/city name (reverse geocoding), and any text you type into location search, along with the relevant map region.
- Why: to render maps, label your current location, and let you search for places.
- Provider: Apple. This is handled by Apple’s MapKit framework and is subject to Apple’s privacy policy
c. Space-weather geomagnetic K-index (NOAA SWPC)
- What is sent: nothing about you. The App downloads a single, public, global forecast file.
- Why: to display the planetary K-index used in flight-condition scoring.
- Provider: NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center
d. Airspace and TFR data from Oriten servers (operated by CHNH, LLC)
- What is sent: requests for the airspace map areas you view (map tile coordinates and, for TFRs, the bounding box of the visible map region), and requests to download offline data packs. No name, account, or advertising identifier is attached; the App has none to send.
- Why: to deliver airspace, TFR, and UAS facility map layers derived from public FAA data.
- Server logs: like nearly every web server, ours records standard technical information about each request (IP address, request path, and timestamp) for reliability and security. Depending on your jurisdiction, this technical data may qualify as personal information. We use it only to operate and secure the service; we do not use it to identify you, build profiles, advertise, or track you, and we do not sell it or share it with anyone.
- Retention: server logs are deleted within 30 days, except where a specific log entry must be kept longer to investigate abuse or a security incident, or to comply with a legal obligation.
e. Subscriptions (Apple)
- What is sent: purchase and subscription transactions are processed entirely by Apple through your Apple Account. We do not receive your name, payment card details, or billing address. The App receives from Apple only the transaction records needed to unlock subscription features on your device.
- Provider: Apple, under Apple’s Media Services terms and privacy policy.
4. Location
The App requests access to your location only while you are using it, to forecast local flight and light conditions and to center the map. You can grant or deny this permission, and change it at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services. If you deny location access, you can still use the App by selecting locations manually. As described in Section 3, coordinates and map regions are sent to the services above to deliver weather, map, and airspace features; they are not used to track you.
5. What we do NOT do
- We do not maintain user accounts or profiles, and we do not link any server data to your identity.
- We do not use third-party analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not engage in targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising.
- We do not sell or rent any data, and we do not “sell” or “share” personal information as those terms are defined in U.S. state privacy laws.
- We do not require an account, email address, or sign-in.
6. Data retention and deletion
Your content lives only on your device, so you are in control of it: to delete all data the App holds, delete the App from your device. There is no server-side copy of your content for us to retain or erase. The only data our servers hold is the technical log data described in Section 3(d), which is deleted within 30 days and is not linked to your identity. Subscription records are held by Apple under Apple’s policies.
7. Children’s privacy
Oriten is intended for users 18 and older (see our Terms & Conditions). It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Security
Data is stored within the App’s sandbox on your device and protected by iOS. Network requests to the services above are made over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to our server is restricted to those who operate it.
9. Your privacy rights
Your in-app data is under your direct control on your device: you can view, edit, export (where the App provides it), or delete it at any time without our involvement.
On the server side, we hold only the short-lived technical logs described in Section 3(d), which are not linked to your name or identity. Because of this, we generally cannot associate a rights request with any specific log data. That said, depending on where you live, you may have legal rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. To make a request, email admin@chnh.llc and we will honor it to the extent we hold anything covered by it, regardless of where you live. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. Data sent to the third-party providers listed above is governed by their respective privacy policies.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above and posting the revised policy at the URL where this document is hosted.
